Listen to Your Customers

I had an interesting experience the other day that i would like to share with you.

There’s a great website I visit regularly because it is constantly updated with new techniques for a graphics software package I use called Photoshop (t). I loaded up their homepage on my screen as usual and started to look through the new techniques.

I didnt get very far before my attention was distracted. Was I distracted by a great offer? A winning product? A staggering guarantee? NO! I was distracted by an oversized ad at the top of the page. Not just any ad, an ad that flashed with the urgency and brightness of a police car racing through the streets on high alert! Enough to draw your attention from another room let alone another part of the screen! Determined, I attempted to read on several times before being forced to abandon all hope.

Irritated and frustrated, I e-mailed the webmaster to let them know what had happened. Although he didn’t say it in these words, I got a reply that pretty much said “Oh really, I don’t care”.

He should care! While his customers are being distracted by the flashing ad they are not reading his site content and NOT buying anything from his company. The chances of selling something in this situation are ZERO!

Now he obviously doesnt see the seriousness of his actions. He has lost a loyal customer and countless future sales and all because he didnt listen to his customer. Never, never, never let anything distract your customers attention from your sales pitch! If you dont sell, you are going out of business and fast.

Do yourself a favour. If you wanna stay in business and grow your business always listen to your customer. They are the hard-earned lifeblood of your business. If he or she takes the time to write in to say what a bad experience they had at your site or how you can improve your site – listen! Accept it with open arms (even if its negative).

Then please thank them for their time and consideration and act on their input.

It will improve your business – its as simple as that.
